     Other fediverse systems (FoundKey, Mitra, Pleroma, Threads, Friendica, Bridgy Fed, Hollo, Iceshrimp) already implemented another FEP: codeberg.org/fediverse/fep/src…

     So we will have a situation with two concurring systems.

     @Mastodon i don’t understand why this took so long.

     the worries that this could be used to make negative comments about others post are completely out of reality, because this can also be achieved by posting it as a link or posting a screenshot.

     on other platforms that is handled quite simply: if somebody does a repost that you don’t like, block the account and done.

     Actually, then they still can post links or screenshots with negative comments because thats anyway completely unavoidable.

     We’ve thought carefully about building this feature, and we hope it broadens your use of Mastodon!

     However, you're in control: if you don’t want your content to be quoted, you can find the setting to prevent future quotes of your content under Settings -> Preferences -> Other (in Mastodon 4.4).

     thanks for the background info!

     allowing reposts only with consent is impossible to enforce because one can always post a screenshot or the url.

     @Mastodon @lazyb0y I just scanned through the thread. It is interesting to see that the opinion about this is really split in the Mastodon community. And yeah, you are totally right. There are multiple ways to circumvent the created restrictions.

     @Mastodon @Jain It will not break it, but we will still have got two different worlds. The older FEP e232 is created in a well thought way, so that on not supported servers you simply see some RE: https://server.example/objects/123 in the last line to indicate a quote.
