And it appears there's already a new !Fedgroups at https://gnusocial.de/group/1452/id

There's another list of !Fedgroups at http://laemeur.sdf.org/gs/group-index.html It's an automated scraper, but it looks like it hasn't scraped since November 2016

I'm not centralizing my group subscriptions on purpose, but it's a #NetworkEffect caused by the lack of distributed !Fedgroups hosting -- if I could create another group on my server with the same group name, and if my server then shared the load to distribute messages for the same people already subscribed to that group on other servers, I would have created a new group. It would make groups more resilient when particular server disappears; the remaining servers would just redistribute the load to host the group. If you see a !GNUsocial developer you can pass on this great suggestion :-)

I understand that my suggestion for distributed management of !Fedgroups is something that is not supported at all with the current !GNUsocial architecture. Implementing something like that would be a major undertaking. I wonder if cooperative, distributed group administration and membership maintenance could be implemented with a plugin...

Thank you. I think a list of existing groups is very important, groups are a really great feature, so maybe we could recreate that? I would be willing to help here, but I don't have it in me to organize that and I don't know how to do it best. !fedgroups !fediverse.
