What's interesting about this is that I thought the most common comment on !GNUsocial was that there were too many techies and nerds on here to ever be a prominent, social platform:

If only Reddit didn't suck so much maybe I could motivate myself to get an account and reply there. Too bad they don't do pingbacks, webmention or salmons...

@mmn maybe, as seen from mastodon.xyz, the WholeKnownNetwork looks a lot more non-techie, anime and loli-like than expected.
Mastodon instances hide the public timeline so people can't see what's going on inside *before* creating an account there.
