By the next time you see me post in here I will be
When you find out you're someone's girlfriend because she messaged you saying "hey I called you 'girlfriend' to my family last night, is that okay" 😻
@rysiek @heluecht @atomicpoet @axbom @darnell Yeah, things are so much in a better state than they were then. Obviously, there's lots more to be done. But, since you two were some of the people from "existing decentralized social applications" who gave the most feedback on activitypub, you know how hard it was to convince people that getting a unified protocol would be possible at all. Progress!
You can also raise it if you've been around since the StatusNet (or laconica!) days
and yes I said "the identi.ca days" instead of the StatusNet days because it encompasses a broader period of time and work
Raise your hand if you've been on the fediverse since the identi.ca days 👋
@modernmodron The great thing about uploads is there can always be another, if you feel like it :)
(And if you don't, that's ok!)
@modernmodron This is cute, but I think the timing is maybe off? It looks like all the frames are running at the same time, but the animation feels like it's running proportionally too fast in parts.
Love these slime monsters though! HOpe you don't mind the critique, I always enjoy your stuff.
@natecull sxml is pretty great to work with. Quasiquoting for html templating is living the dream.
@KitRedgrave Sorry, you can't leave the restaurant until your bitcoin payment is verified.
@quephird Wow, I was thinking "maybe I should make a pizza" but now I'm thinking "I guess I definitely should make a pizza"
@clacke @sandhawke @yair Me too, I did that with a lot of them! And obviously demoscene music got its start in crack intros too, so that stuff is a gold.
Heading to the deck to read some spec printouts.
@munin That's interesting... I hadn't thought of that.
Yep, our society of computing is screwed I guess!
@munin Are you talking about when it's true or when someone's taking advantage of the ambiguity of if it's true?
Something akin to the ideas behind zero knowledge proofs can be employed (even if not formally that) by either encrypting or revealing a specifically suggested section of content as a proof of infiltration. Not that I advocate it (I definitely don't) and not that people are tech-literate enough to understand what that means necessarily..
@hisham_hm You can do that, but then all the binary substitutes need to be rebuilt. Recompiling everything for just Debian seems kinda wonky, but maybe it's worth it for someone...
There are two other possible options: 1) namespaces magic or 2) rewriting all path references in the binaries, similar to the "grafts" feature used for faster security patching used now...
It's amazing how early design mistakes of successful software end up getting after-the-fact justifications that are ardently defended by its fans.
Example: /usr was the disk for users data in the original Unix (old docs use /usr/ken in examples after K. Thompson). When the root disk got full they started storing programs there and /usr/bin was born.
People now give backronyms for "USR" and justify the /usr though the rigid "partitions" model is flawed (and was even abandoned in Plan 9).
@hisham_hm The main reason it's hard to get Guix packaged in Debian is that it includes /gnu/ which violates the FHS. I understand wanting to not have too many variations on the toplevel as an argument, but *some* users treat the FHS as if it's a sacred document...
girl> "Okay, but YOU gotta play by the rules."
dad> "Yes, I promise I will play honerably... with my own child."
