Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman@sn.jonkman.ca)'s status on Tuesday, 30-May-2017 22:40:42 CEST Bob Jonkman For many systems on which I'm the !SysAdmin I *only* do work as root. For me there's no advantage to using sudo for every command. So either I log in as bobjonkman then 'sudo -i' or 'su', or I have ssh certs so I can 'ssh root@example.com' directly. -
Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Tuesday, 30-May-2017 21:54:46 CEST Douglas A. Whitfield It's 2017, and people still don't test or backup.
Or maybe it's 2017, so people just give no fucks? -

Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Friday, 26-May-2017 22:44:57 CEST Douglas A. Whitfield Judging by the lack of #elk tags, I am guessing there is no elk stack group. Wrong or right? !fedgroups !fediverse -

I suspect lucene is involved, but aside from it's a "Linux" service, really have no additional context presently. -
Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Thursday, 25-May-2017 03:24:50 CEST Douglas A. Whitfield !fediverse !fedgroups #config group aliased as !puppet !chef !ansible -- Happy to take suggestions on a link. Also, if groups exist for puppet or ansible, let me know and I can change the aliases. !sysadmin -

Automation is great! -
Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman@sn.jonkman.ca)'s status on Wednesday, 24-May-2017 00:02:20 CEST Bob Jonkman Thanx to the !SysAdmin that kicked the DB server. The wiki works again! https://libreplanet.org/wiki/ -
Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Monday, 22-May-2017 17:30:46 CEST Douglas A. Whitfield Anybody got a link to #SNMP info in #French they can recommend? -
Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Sunday, 21-May-2017 17:20:34 CEST Douglas A. Whitfield Anybody have a ready-made script for auto-selecting radio buttons on a site? I don't need it to sign in automatically or anything like that. Given my time frame, I think just clicking through makes more sense than figuring out how to do this, but if someone has something that is easy, could certainly be helpful. -
Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Friday, 19-May-2017 23:17:58 CEST Douglas A. Whitfield not sure if it's Firefox, or something else, but something in the stack with https://learn.chef.io/#/ is buggy as hell. -

Anyway, is there a #chef group? -
Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Monday, 08-May-2017 23:52:22 CEST Douglas A. Whitfield suspect I would know by now but does anyone around here know anything about MRTG? -
Bob Jonkman (bobjonkman@sn.jonkman.ca)'s status on Sunday, 07-May-2017 21:05:47 CEST Bob Jonkman Oh no, not another !SysAdmin Tale of Woe: "error: cannot read `/dev/sdb': Input/output error." -
Douglas A. Whitfield (musicman@nu.federati.net)'s status on Friday, 05-May-2017 23:46:47 CEST Douglas A. Whitfield #puppet, #chef, or #ansible? Puppet has their own repos for #CentOS 6 and 7. Ansible is already in 7. Chef is in neither by default, so it seems like chef is out. I already installed puppet on a couple, else chef might be better. Would be nice if the repos were the same and it could just detact your version. Maybe #DNF does this? I haven't touched #Fedora in like 7 years until today, not that I did much with it. -

drymer (drymer@social.daemons.it)'s status on Tuesday, 02-May-2017 20:45:44 CEST drymer Any !sysadmin with an open gitea? Since I opened registration I have a lot of automatic registers. They're just there, I guess I'll delete them at some point, but I'm curious.
