What does "Ignore" do?

I expected that "Ignore" would mean I don't have to see this person's posts or get notified when they comment on posts I've interacted with, but it seems to do neither.

And then I thought "Block" would mean don't allow this person to follow me. But it seems to also successfully do what I thought "Ignore" would do.
