Oh no! I just compared the audio quality of both Pocketcast and Overcast playing the same well produced podcast at 1.8x speeds.
Now I have to switch to overcast. The difference is enormous.

@zerok I saw the light today! ☀️
@SevenOfNein I pity you.
@vollkorn I don't think so. Overcast's audio engine was written for iOS only. Most (all?) other apps use Apple's standard sound lib (?). Plus I don't even know if there are differences between the Android and iOS PocketCast apps. I assume there are...

I'll be in Hamburg sometime in the week before Eastern. Maybe we have to compare them in person. :)
Turns out, Overcast has become a really nice app. Plus it lacks all the annoyances that PocketCast introduced in their last major update. 10€/year is a reasonable price, too. The switch was painless.
@fihu No. Just OPML export and import.
@fihu That’s what I meant. I was very happy with PC before the update. Now I’m often confused. OC somehow feels more intuitive.
@fihu Ich weiß, dass OC das auch macht. Vielleicht aber nicht sofort.
@mcp 1) The playback/speed settings were suddenly very hidden. 2) The new archived state is not how I think. 3) Suddenly everything was different.
3) doesn’t really count. But suddenly, and i can’t really put it into words, it doesn’t feel as good as before.
@mcp No. Click on the up-arrow in the lower-left corner. This brings up the large podcast logo. Then swipe left. Or right. I never know what is what. On one side you get the episode's shownotes, on the other side there's "smart speed" (cut out silence) and the speed dial.
@mcp The main premium feature is add freedom.
@mcp I can see that. At least, once you know it it’s very fast.
Just checked again in Pocketcast: there it’s: 1) click the small dial icon 2) tap the small plus/minus signs
And to change “custom for this podcast”, it’s: 1) go to podcast list 2) click on podcast 3) click on tiny settings wheel 4) click on Playback Effects 5) Toggle Custom for this podcast.
THAT’s what really annoys me about Pocketcast since the recent update.
@mcp Sounds good! :)
