@marcus @xj9 Looking at Evan's account gives you a veritable impression of how "market ready" it is: https://e14n.com/evan (or, to save you time: http://isup.me/e14n.com)

@xj9 Let me ask you one question: how long have you been using and advertising gnu social (or comparable, federated networks)?

@xj9 So then you could know that fighting against the big corporates can be tough and a very long-term thing. That's where the cat's chasing it's own tail: Social networks as in Twitter, Facebook Timeline etc. are on a steep decline. Just some figures: https://gnusocial.de/url/3393226 People use messengers, group chats etc. as social networks nowadays.

"Microblogging" services are losing users totally disregarding which underlying technique the service uses. The idea of publicly posting things everyone can read and reply to hat it's time and so as a consequence had FLOSS it's time in this sector. That is another reason to thank Evan: he nuked StatusNet at some point where privacy and information control in social networks

I'm not saying that GS etc. will die. But don't expect to pull many people off a service they don't want to use anymore out of conceptual reasons towards a network that's just technically but not conceptually different.
