    User: "I love apps!"

Dev: "Great, here's an app for $5!"

User: "Well I don't love apps *that* much..."

Dev: "Okay, here's an app for free with ads instead!"

User: "Ads are disgusting and immoral."

Dev: "Oh, uh, here's an app for free with in-app purchases and no ads!"

User: "In-App purchases are a cancer that's destroying the industry!"

Dev: "Well I'm out of ideas. No More app."

User: "Damn greedy devs stopped updating the app I paid for 5 years ago!"

The weird thing is, if you skipped the rest of the innings and went straight to the 9th as a shortcut, I don’t think it’d be any fun at all.

Baseball is a surprisingly boring sport to watch until it’s the 9th and it’s tied and your team is up. At that moment it is the best sport ever.

I wouldn't be surprised if this particular cloudy dream-like situation is a side effect of my antidepressant.

Even so, these sorts of days are a small price to pay for the *extremely large* benefit of not being impossibly depressed every hour of every day. If you're feeling that way, see a doctor now. Just do it. It's well worth it. There's no shame in it. If you need glasses, you'd get them without hesitation. If you need meds for depression, you should get them without hesitation.

Programming is great because you can just take that huge messy chuck from the middle of your function and hide it away under a new name in a new function and feel good about how you "cleaned up" the original function by abstracting the internals.

This is exactly how I used to clean my room as a kid - I'd refactor all the junk on the floor to be under my bed. Boom - problem solved.
