@arx hey - i think you may be one of the few trailblazers using E2E in matrix-js-sdk atm; heads up that in v0.7.10 we've changed how you include Olm (the app needs to have pulled it in as a global, rather than the SDK require-ing it). Changelog has more details.

@Azure the biggest wave of a11y fixes went live in Feb/Mar, so hopefully things have improved a bit.

@jas ah yes - have heard very good things, and there's interesting overlap between JMAP & Matrix. It's not FOSS though, and I can't self-host, so I think I'm stuck with T-bird :)

@jas Thunderbird is alive and well (despite Mozilla cutting funding(?) a few years ago) - I (@matthew) am completely dependent on it, with an IMAP tree of about 120K folders & 10s of million of mail. I'm not aware of any web interface which can compete, although SOGo does quite a good job. Will be even better with Matrix support!

@jas I think the way it works is Thunderbird & Instantbird share the same Chat Core component. Thunderbird has it built in as Thunderbird Chat; Instantbird is a standalone XUL app. Given the last Instantbird release (1.5) was 2013, I think all the work these days is effectively going into Thunderbird. @clokep please feel free to correct!

.@israuor yup. we had a large traffic spike earlier (around 17:00 UTC), but just then it looks like there was a hardware issue on the main homeserver host. for about 10 minutes. Back now...

Matrix is an open decentralised chat/messaging/VoIP/data-sync protocol; you can use it with an app like Riot.im for Slack-style UX, but with bridges through to IRC, Slack, Gitter, Telegram, XMPP etc.

So, in short, Matrix is to Slack as OStatus is to Twitter. (And Riot is to Matrix as Mastodon is to OStatus).
