Okay, I just pushed a commit to !postActiv nightly that has hubsub callback blocking for instances. What does this mean? Basically when they hubout messages to you, these messages can be blocked.
!!!! Things to note: !!!!
1 - @-mentions are not blocked, those are done with salmons.
2- YOUR OWN hubouts are not blocked, so they will still be sent out to banned instances (for now)
To do this on latest !postActiv nightly, add this to your config.php:
$config['site']['sanctions']['banned_instances'] = 'site1.com,site2.com,etc.com';
Change as desired.
Report any problems to the issue tracker as always, so it doesn't get lost and we get any problems fixed. I'm going to get some sleep, or try to, and then work on outgoing hubouts. -

So I just merged a contribution from @bob to !postActiv that adds a rate-limiting firewall to help deal with DOS problems (thanks Bob). Those of you already set up, I'd suggest doing this for as well. It's not been neccesary really up until now with the nature of the fediverse, but with an increasing number of bot bad actors out there, it's becoming so. #postActiv -

We have one (1) critical bug left in the !postActiv tracker prior to 1.0.3 release so I'm putting out this call: anyone who has tried postActiv with MySQL 5.7 and run into problems they've documented or are willing to experiment and report the issues, please get back to me so I can try to resolve it! https://git.postactiv.com/postActiv/postActiv/issues/55

For those !postActiv admins out there: pawoo.net seems to be engaging in a lot of data mining and that kind of pulling from databases via the API. If you wish to be proactive about protecting the privacy of your issues, you might want to block them or consider measures to limit their API access. The latter is very technical with the current state of the codebase however (I will have to consider proper much less complicated means to do so) If you wish to block them, you can get the current IPs from a DIG of their addresses. As always, the decision to block, impose other sanctions, or do nothing, is on individual instance admins, but do be aware they're doing that kind of thing. #postactiv -
